Friday's Confessions

Friday confessions are back this week. Partially because I have a lot to talk about confess, but mostly because I have felt uninspired lately. (Can that be considered a confession?)

Today's confessions are brought to you by a no name brand of pseudoephederine cold medicine, from a drug store that shall remain nameless. I would like to yell at politely thank the pharmacist that recommended these drugs to me, for reasons to be confessed below. Things could get interesting...

Here goes,

I confess... I have been feeling under the weather lately.  (Hence the cold medicine.) Cloudy head, plugged ears, Rudolph nose, the typical head cold/sinus stuff.  I like to think that working with animal poo and pee, raw meat and even children on a daily basis builds up my immunity to that kind of stuff, but apparently not.  Boo for colds.

I confess... Due to the above confession, I made the mistake of taking said pseudoephederine before bed.  I am currently writing these confessions while lying wide awake at 3am because my brain will not shut off.  The meds were trying to convince my brain that someone was breaking into the apartment.  Turns out it was just the wind.  Safe to say said cold medicine and I don't get along.

I confess... Due to the above confession, I am very thankful for spell check and autocorrect.  The amount of typos in these confessions is embarassing embarrassing.

I confess... Hockey playoffs begin in 2 weeks.  While I'm sad another season has almost come and gone, there is nothing more exciting than a sold out crowd cheering on the boys.  And this number one fan will be right in the middle of it all.

I confess... Did you see my Aurora pics in my last post?  While they may not be Nat Geo quality, the northern lights are truly nature at its best and continue to awe me.

I confess... This Saturday, March 23, 2013 from 8:30-9:30pm in Earth Hour 2013.  Join the hundreds of millions of people, businesses and governments around the world as they unite to support the LARGEST environment event in history.  So, what will you during your one hour?  I will be participating in the Alaska Zoo's 2nd Annual Earth Hour Event, which includes a candlelit walk through the Zoo.  After a huge turnout last year for the first ever event in Anchorage (only second in the entire great state), we look forward to doing it again tomorrow night.

I confess... Right on cue with the beginning of spring, my red fox friend at work has started to shed his thick winter coat.  This means I now have to bring an extra change of clothes to work because no one wants to be around me after I have a program with him.  I don't blame them. They're called the skunks of Alaska for a reason.

I confess... Speaking of work, I saved the best confession for last.  This happened last week but I had to keep mum about it.  Do you know how hard it is to do that when something this cute comes into your life?! Isn't he just the cutest thing you ever did see???!!!  His name is Kali (pronounced Cully, which is Inupiat for Point Lay, the northern Alaskan village where he was found orphaned).  He is a temporary visitor until USFWS finds him a permanent home at a facility in the Lower 48.  For more on his story, click here.  Enjoy staring at this cute face.

Enjoy your weekend!

I plan on soaking up some as much sunshine as I can in below freezing temperatures! Spring who?!

Dancing Lights

Sorry for the lack of posts lately, my mind has been on Spring Break.

We were fortunate to have the perfect night on Saturday.  So perfect, that this happened...

(Please excuse the amount of city light because it was 1am and I was too lazy to get in the car and drive out of the middle of the city and the camera shake because I was excited/without a tripod/standing outside in a hoodie in below freezing temperatures.)

Ambient light and camera shake, or not, you can't argue that this sight is magical.
Nature at its best.

Have you ever seen the Aurora Borealis?

Weekend Recap: Celebrating the Frontier Spirit

It's been a while since we've gone on some type of adventure, or even had a Saturday that was hockey-free.  This is the first time in 3 years that Steve has been in town for the ceremonial start of the Iditarod.  So, we hit the streets of downtown Anchorage this past Saturday to take in two seriously Alaskan events that celebrate the frontier spirit, the ceremonial start of the Iditarod and Fur Rendezvous' Running of the Reindeer.

Here's our Saturday in pictures:

Iditarod ceremonial start:

Fur Rondy's Running of the Reindeer:

Do I think these people are crazy for running with reindeer?  Slightly.  But in the 6 years this event has run, no one has been seriously injured... by a reindeer.  We definitely saw many people eat the ground though. Kudos to those people who can now check "running with reindeer" off their bucket lists.

Enjoy your week! I hope it's warmish and sunny!

Confessional Friday: {Link Up}

Happy March 1st!

Today I'm linking up with A Blonde Ambition for another Confessional Friday!

Here goes...

First and foremost, I confess... real life has taken over lately and I have neglected the blog - work, wedding planning, being a number one fan and a recent trip back East have been my priorities as of late. Good excuses to me.

I confess... I had a "nightmare" the other night that our wedding was in 2 days.  It was one of those dreams you wake up thinking it's real.  Serious panic attack.

Where so much love will be shared June 29, 2013.

I confess... my gym workouts now revolve around how much time I can have in the steam room.  My new obsession.

I confess...  we will be heading downtown to watch the ceremonial start of the Iditarod tomorrow.  Embracing the Alaskan spirit.

I confess... we watched "Argo" the other night.  Great movie, but a little disappointed in Ben Affleck for downplaying the large role the Canadians had in the operation. But, I guess that's why they say "based on real events".

I confess... playoffs are just around the corner and it drives me nuts that I don't know the schedule and therefore can't plan my life.

I confess... I am sooo ready for spring.  Ready for the snow and gloomy skies to disappear.  No explanation needed.

I confess...  I have become addicted to coconut oil.  While most might be turned off at the thought of putting oil on your face, you must trust me, it works wonders on your skin.  Not to mention, it's pretty tasty to cook with.

I confess... my camera has been sitting in the closet collecting dust for the past two months.  I am in need of a nature photo shoot.

Isn't this guy so intriguing?

I hope your weekend is sunny.
