We Miss Food! [Guest Post]

Hey! I’m Megan, and I blog over at History and Hockey Sticks! My husband and I are stationed at Ramstien Air Base, Germany and love the European life we’re getting to experience. Over on my blog, you’ll routinely see topics like travel, food, ice hockey and military-stuff appear regularly.

There is definitely one thing that we miss from home though, besides our family and friends. What’s that? The food.

You might think that’s such a strange thing to miss, but when you are 3,000+ miles from where you grew up and all your friends and family, sometimes you are just DYING for a taste of home. While we do have some of our American favorites over in Germany, many of them just are not quite the same. In that aspect, sometimes they are even better than in the states [here’s looking at you, McDonalds!].

I recently took a Space-A flight on a C-17 to come back to the states for a visit. Since my husband couldn't get off work, it was just me back in the states for the visit. One of my biggest priorities was FOOD. I was ecstatic to have the opportunity to eat some good old American classics.

So over the past few weeks, I’ve enjoyed such wonderful food such as Rita’s, Chipotle, homemade beef dumplings, Thrasher’s French Fries, Fisher’s Popcorn, and several more delicious bites. I’ve been torturing my husband with photos of all this food, to make it worse!

While we are in Germany, however, we love eating local food! Some of our favorite meals in Europe are currywurst, snitzel and donners. I’ve loved currywurst since I visited Berlin in 2010, and I was ecstatic to sink my teeth back into it! We also love the fresh fruit and produce we buy at the farmers markets that they have in our local village!

If you moved 3,000+ miles from home, what would you miss?
